WELCOME TO YEAR 2H
Welcome back! I hope you have all enjoyed your Christmas break and are recharged and ready for a jam packed Spring term 1.
We are going to be asking, 'Where are we going and who are we going to meet?' throughout every unit of work. We will be travelling around the world and meeting many significant individuals. I am sure you will really enjoy the topics this year. We will look at the Titanic in History, E-Safety in Computing, Dance in PE, Christianity in RE, Body and face in Art and Ocarina's in Music.
I will be sharing our curriculum over the year so that you can see what your child is learning. I will be in regular contact using Class Dojo and I will use this to let you know what the children have been doing in class, sharing tasks such as weekly spellings along with ways that you can support learning at home.
If you are not already added to our class on Dojo I would urge you to do this as soon as possible with the details that have been sent home.
Please can I encourage all children to be in school for 8.50am. We start lessons straight away and the children are missing out on learning if they arrive late.
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to speak to us before or after school or send a message on Class Dojo (please note that messages will be replied to during school hours).
Mr Hyde and Mrs Chandler
Children will not be required to bring their PE kits into school for Autumn 1. They will be able to wear their PE kit to school on the day of P.E. Our P.E. session will be on a Tuesday morning so please send your children in the appropriate P.E. kit. This consists of:
PE will predominantly happen outside (weather permitting).
Home Reading Books
Reading books will be changed every Friday. Please ensure that book and reading diaries are returned and in school on the Wednesday. Children will take home 2 books each week. It is important that your child reads every day. This can be done independently or with the help of an adult or older sibling. Please also ask the children questions about their book to check their understanding.
Children will be tested each Friday on their weekly spellings. These will be sent home in their spelling books which they can use to practise in along with being shared on Dojo. Please support your child to learn these as it impacts on their progress and supports their writing.
In Literacy we will are reading Diary of a Killer Cat. We will be writing character descriptions, retelling the story in role, using a conscience alley for debate and creating our own Diary from a different character's viewpoint. As with every half term we will focus on grammar, phonics and guided reading.
This half term we will be learning how to solve Fraction problems. We will also be learning to measure in length, capacity and Mass.
All children have logins for Times Tables Rock Stars (TTRS) which have been sent home and I encourage the children to log in at home and play to build their times tables knowledge.
