Welcome to Year 4M.
A huge welcome to all of our children and families. Please read this page to keep up to date with our focus for learning throughout the year. W e are going to be asking ‘Where are we going and who are we going to meet?’ throughout every unit of work. We will be travelling around the world and meeting many significant individuals. I am sure you will really enjoy the topics this year. I will share our learning further on our ClassDojo page.

This term we will be focusing place value. We will also be revising addition and subtraction and solving word problems. We will be learning written methods for multiplication and division. Also recalling multiplication and division facts for multiplication tables up to 12 x 12.
This term, we will be reading The Boy at the Back of the Class by Onjali Q Rauf. This is an interesting book about a refugee called Ahmet who come to live in London. We will be analysing the text, exploring new vocabulary, writing character and setting descriptions leading to the writing of our own story sequel.
In grammar and punctuation lessons, we will be focusing on Year 4 objectives which starts with pronouns.
This term, we will be learning about Living Things and their Habitats. We will be able to recognise the characteristics of a living thing and how living things can be grouped in variety of ways. We will also be using classification keys to help group, identify and name a variety of living things in their wider environment.
This half term, we will be learning about Europe. We will be asking the question ‘Why is Europe successful?’
This term, we will be studying Ancient Greece. We will be explaining the political system and democracy. The Ancient Olympic games, Greek Gods and Goddesses and recalling facts about the Battle of Marathon.
The first art topic will be Texture and Pattern. We will be exploring charcoal, printing, reflection and symmetry.
This term, we will be learning about Hinduism. We will learn about Hindu gods, Hindu worship and Hindu symbolism.
This term we will be learning about families and relationships. Which includes respect and manners, healthy friendships and thinking about how our behaviour affects others.
Design and Technology
This term, we will be adapting a recipe to make biscuits. We will be testing ingredients, creating a budget and designing the packages for the biscuits. We will be having a biscuit bake off!
The children have logins for Time Tables Rock Stars. They can access the app at home on a laptop or iPad. Please encourage your child to access the website at home as this will give them much needed practice of the Times Tables they are unsure of. Children will be taking part in TTRS in class every day.

This year, our P.E lessons will take place every Monday morning. The focus of the P.E lessons will be basketball. The children must come to school wearing their full P.E kit every Monday. Earrings must be removed and a water bottle and outdoor coat is required.
This is the P.E kit your child is required to wear:

Every Friday, your child will receive their new spelling list. Please can you help your child to practise and learn their spellings every week. They will be tested the following Friday. The children will be introduced to different methods to help them learn the spelling rules.
In Year 4 the children will learn to play the violin with Mrs Guillan.
This will be taught by Technola every Monday morning.
We will continue to use Accelerated Reader. The children will complete a quiz on every book they read and then receive a new reading book. Please make sure your child reads with an adult every day after school. It is essential that your child engages in reading for pleasure as this helps to improve vocabulary and comprehension skills.
