MATHS
MONEY
This term the children will learn to recognise and use symbols for pounds (£) and pence (p). To combine amounts to make a particular value. Also finding different combinations of coins that equal the same unit and give change. To solve problems involving addition and subtraction of money of the same unit and give changes.
Shape
To identify and describe the properties of 2-D shapes, including the number of sides and line of symmetry in a vertical line and to identify and describe 3-D shapes, including the number of edges, vertices and faces. Also to identify 2-D shapes on the surface of 3-D shapes. For example, a circle on a cylinder and a triangle on a pyramid. To compare and sort common 2-D and 3-D shapes and everyday objects.
Graphs/ Statistics
To interpret and construct simple pictograms, tally charts, block diagrams and simple tables and to ask and answer simple questions by counting the number of objects in each category and sorting the categories by quantity. To ask and answer questions about totalling and comparing categorical data

ENGLISH
This half term, our focus text is “The Disgusting Sandwich” by Gareth Edwards. The children will write a set of instructions and write their own story.
In grammar and punctuation lessons, we will be focusing on Year 2 objectives including writing sentences using a capital letter at the beginning of sentence and using full stops at the end of a sentence. We will be exploring using of adjectives to describe the noun leading to the use of expanded noun phrases. Whilst also discovering tenses and using coordinating and subordinating conjunctions. Developing knowledge of the different sentence types. Also we will be using commas in a list and apostrophes for possession.
SPELLING
Every Friday, your child will be given their new spelling lists. Please take time to help your child learn these spellings each week. They will be tested on the following Friday. The children will be introduced to different methods to help them to learn the spelling rules. To help your child learn their spellings, please encourage them to recap the meaning of words and write them in sentences.

SCIENCE
This term will be exploring living things and their habitats. We will be exploring and comparing the differences between things that are living, dead and that have never been alive. Also, the children will identify that most living things live in habitats to which they are suited and describe how different habitats provide for the basic needs of different kinds of animals and plants, and how they depend on each other. To name and identify a variety of plants and animals in their habitats, including microhabitats. Whilst describing how animals, obtain their food from plants and other animals, using the idea of a simple food chain and identify and name different sources of food.

History
This term, we will be studying significant individuals, Rosa Parks and Nelson Mandela. Over this term the children will discuss Rosa Parks and Nelson Mandela as significant individuals. We will explore society at these times and how it has changed due to the legacy of Rosa Parks and Nelson Mandela. Recall key facts about Florence Nightingale and Mary Seacole. To explore how life was different for ethnic minorities when Rosa Parks and Nelson Mandela were alive, when they were growing up and how it is different now. To explain the significant events in Rosa Parks and Nelson Mandela’s lives. To understand how sources can help us find out more about our past.
ART
This half term, we will be exploring ‘Sculpture’. To use hands to shape clay and to shape a pinch pit and join clay shapes as decorations. Also, using the impressive and joining techniques to decorate a clay tile. The children will design a clay tile and use their drawing skills and plan using the features for a 3D model. To make a 3D clay tile from a drawn design.
Life Education
Our Life Education sessions this half term will focus ‘Economic wellbeing’ and ‘Safety and the changing body’. In Economic wellbeing, the children will be learning about where money comes from, wants and needs, looking after money and jobs. In Safety and the changing body children will understand what the internet is and how to keep safe online, road safety and respecting boundaries.
P.E.
P.E lessons will continue on Thursday mornings. The children must come to school wearing their full PE kit every Thursday. Earrings must be removed and they will need a water bottle.

This term we will learn all about what an animation is, what stop motion animation is and how to create a stop motion animation. Then we will plan our stop motion animation and then start to create it.

It is very important that your child reads every day, this can be independently or with help of an adult. Please ask children questions about their book to check their understanding.

The children will recap telling the time using o’clock and half past. To also, tell and write the time including quarter past and to the hour, drawing hands on a clock face to show these times. To know how many minutes in an hour.

Geography
This term, we will be studying coastal regions of the UK. Learning how to locate coastal regions of the UK on a map. Using key vocabulary to refer to human and physical features. To use and discuss aerial photographs. To explore the physical process of coastal erosion and discuss key human processes that are influenced by physical feature. Such as tourism, travel and pollution. To devise a simple map and use and construct a basic symbols in a key. To talk about seasonal weather patterns in the UK and discuss a question: why would we not go on holiday to Blackpool in November?
Design & Technology
This half term, we will be exploring objects and understand how they move. The children will understand what a lever, pivot and linkage are. To explore different designs of a monster and then making the monster.
Life Education
Our Life Education sessions this half term will focus on 'Citizenship’ and ‘Economic Wellbeing.’ In Citizenship, the children will be exploring the importance of rules, to understand ways to look after the school environment. To recognise the role people, play in looking after the environment, begin to understand the roles people have in the community. Also, to recognise similarities and differences between people in the local community whilst understanding how democracy works in school and understand ways to share an opinion. In Economic wellbeing, the children will be understanding where money comes from, how needs and wants are different. Whilst understanding how we can save money to buy things we want, to understand that banks look after money. Also, to understand that skills and interests will help someone decide what job they would like to do.

The children will start to understand that multiplication is the same as repeated addition of equal groups whilst counting, recalling and using their knowledge of their 2, 5- and 10-times tables. Also using these multiplication facts to solve word problems.
DIVISION
The children will start to understand that grouping and sharing are ways to divide whilst dividing by 2, 5 and 10 and using their multiplication facts to help. Also to use dividing to solve word problems.
FRACTIONS
The children will start to show equal parts. Show and name halves, quarters and thirds. They will also learn how to count in halves, quarters and thirds whilst also finding a part of a set or quantity.

ENGLISH
This half term, our focus text is 'The Day the Crayons Quit’ by Drew Daywalt. This is an interesting book about crayons who have written letters to Duncan about how they are feeling. The children will have be writing letters of persuasion in role and compliant.

SCIENCE
This term will be exploring every day materials. Firstly, the children will identify a variety of everyday materials including woods, metal, plastic, brick, glass, paper and cardboard. Next, they will be exploring and comparing the suitability of materials for particular uses. The children will meet Charles Macintosh and how he is significant as he invented a waterproof material. Also to investigative what suitable material can be used to protect Humpty Dumpty. The children will also find out how the shapes of solid objects made from some materials can be changed by squashing, bending, twisting and stretching.

What do Christians believe God is like?
History
This term, we will be studying The Titanic. We will be delving into the events of this night and look at the causes and consequences as a result of the causes. We will discover how the causes have a massive impact in the past and present day. The children will order key events, understand what life was like for those on board and to understand what happened after the Titanic sank. Also, the children will learn about significant individuals and the roles they played during this event.
ART
This term, we will be Painting and Mixed Media. This involves developing knowledge of colour mixing. Knowing how texture can be created with paint. Whilst also using paint to explore texture and pattern. The children will compose a collage, choosing and arranging materials for effect. Finally, the children will evaluate their work and improve artwork.
Life Education
This term we will be exploring about health and wellbeing. This will include experiencing different emotions, being active, relaxation through breathing exercises. Also building steps to success, developing a growth mindset and exploring a healthy diet whilst looking after our teeth. This term, we will be learning about Animals including Humans. We will match offspring to their adults. Explore a range of animal life cycles. To understand a human life cycle and how we change as we grow. To explain the three basic needs animals, need to survive such as air, water and food. Explaining about exercise and why this is important and investigating a balanced diet and how to be hygienic.
GEOGRAPHY
This half term, we will be locating and naming the 7 continents and 5 oceans of the world. To help do this the children will use world maps and globes to locate and use NSEW to describe global position. To know and understand the difference between physical and human features in continents studied. Locating the Equator, the North and South poles. Also, to locate Antarctica as a cold place in the world and know why it is cold in relation to the Equator. Whilst describing the physical and any human features of the Antarctica. To discuss climate change as a physical process and its effect on the Poles.
DESIGN AND TECHNOLOGY
The first design technology topic will focus on structures and making a chair for a baby bear. First the children will be exploring stability, considering what materials are suitable to make a chair. Planning and designing their own chair for baby bear. Then making the chair, testing and evaluating the product and fixing.

Also building steps to success, developing a growth mindset and exploring a healthy diet whilst looking after our teeth.

This year, our P.E lessons will take place every Thursday morning. The focus of the P.E lessons will be Fundamental games. The children must come to school wearing their full P.E kit every Thursday. Earrings must be removed and a water bottle and outdoor coat is required.

This term the children will learn to count to 100, partition a two-digit number into tens and ones. Also using number bonds to help partitioning of a number. Also, they will compare numbers and spot the rule for number patterns.
