Tuesday 16th June
Good morning Year 1,
Thank you for all your lovely work yesterday.
Here are today’s tasks.
Mrs E
Phonics
To start today's phonics please can you recap your phase 3 and phase 5 sounds that you find tricky. You can use your sound mats or you could use the flash cars on phonics play.
Can you now practice some of your tricky words- You need to be able to read and spell these! Practise the ones that you find difficult. Choose up to 5.

This half term we are going to be looking at alternative pronunciations and alternative spellings. Today we are going to look at the alternative pronunciation for the ‘a’ grapheme. Can you read these words?
hat, splash, band, laptop, grand, bacon, apron, angel, apricot, bagel, fast, bath, grass, after, path, was, what, squad, want, wander.
Use these games to practice the alternative pronunciation of the 'a' sound

Phonics can be very confusing to some children when we start to find out about the alternative pronunciations – If your child is becoming confused just continue to practice the main phase 5 phonemes.
Reading – Have you read any books from Big Cat Collins?
You should try to read one or two a week.
Remember Choose the colour above your home reading book. There is an activity to complete at the end of the book. Let me know what books you have read there are lots of dojo points on offer.

Maths
Warm-up – Practice counting backwards in 5s – Forwards and backwards
Practice using Whack-a-mole.
What number can you count to or count back from?

If you are not confident counting forwards – keep practising forwards rather than backwards.

Summer Term week 7: Lesson 2 – Count in 5s
- Please watch the video to support your understanding.
- Try the sheet below.
- Check your work against the answers (attached below).
Either print and complete, write the answers on a separate sheet or discuss the answers with an adult or older brother or sister.
Literacy (Monday and Tuesday)
Continue to practice your Year 1 high frequency words.
First have a go at reading the words. Make a note of the words you can read and those you still need to practice. These will then become your focus reading words for the rest of the summer term.
Then in small groups – maybe up to 6 at a time, have a go at spelling the words in the list. Make a note of the words you can spell correctly and those you need to practice. Those will then become your focus words for the rest of the summer term.
Can you please let me know how you get on? You can just write the list or I have attached a checklist at the bottom. Thank you. Any queries please just put a message on dojo and I will get back to you.
Topic
We are going to learn about a very important topic today
which could save your life, water safety. Lots of us are going on walks and may find ourselves near to water- rivers, lakes, canals etc. It is important that you know how to stay safe.
