The Phase 2-5 tricky words are taught within phonics lessons in Reception and Year 1. However, as we have had time out in Year 1 some children may need to review and practise these words. 

Children need to be able to read and write these words. Some of these words are repeated in the Year 1 common exception words. 

The common exception words are words that are used regularly. Some can be sounded out but others can't and to support reading it helps if these words can be read from sight. Being able to spell all of these words will also support their writing.

It is the aim that by the end of Year 2 children can read and write all of these words.
