Welcome to Year 3L

Welcome to our Year 3 page. I hope you had a nice February half-term and you are all excited to be back for an action-packed half-term of learning even though we are starting off with home-learning.

If you have any issues/queries/problems, please contact me directly on Dojo and I will endeavour to respond as quickly as possible. The whole of the Year 3 team is missing you all so much and cannot wait for us to have some normality back and be back in the classroom learning face-to-face.

Cheers, Mr. Lawson

The timetable below is an example of a typical day. The timings do now have to be stuck as you can do the lessons in any order that suits you.

Cheers, Mr. Lawson

In our Geography topic, we will be learning all about ‘The Natural World’. We will learn about rainforest and deserts. We will focus in particular on their climate, weather, structure, location, animals and plants.

In Science, we will be learning all about ‘Forces and Magnets’. We will be learning how things move on different surfaces; how some forces need contact between 2 objects whilst others don’t; how magnets attract or repel some materials and describe magnets as having poles. pulls; We will also be researching the key scientist ‘Magnes’.

In Literacy, we are using ‘Arthur and the Golden Rope’ by Joe Todd-Stanton as our core text. We will read the story whilst pulling apart the key concepts and ideas through the use of VIPERS. We will analyse the characters and setting, look at how a playscript is structured and compare it to a narrative, and focus on dialogue and stage directions.  By the end of the half-term we will use this knowledge to write our own playscript.

In Numeracy, we will be learning all about money.. We will learn how to add, subtract, show and represent different amounts. We will also learn all about time. We will read a range of analogue and digital clocks focusing on reading the time to the nearest minute. We will use the correct terminology to describe time and we will know facts to do with time such as number of seconds in a minute.

In DT, we will be learning all about Structures with a Focus on Castles. By the end of the unit, we will have hopefully created our own 3-D structures out of recyclable materials.

Please visit this page regularly as it will be updated with photos of our work and links to aid learning. Take a look at our planning documents to find out more about what we will be learning this year.

P.E.

Children will not require their PE kits for the Autumn term due to the change of uniform policy. Our PE session will be on a Monday morning so please send your children in the appropriate clothing and footwear. PE will predominantly happen outside.

Spellings

Children will be given a spelling list every Friday. Please ensure your child practises these everyday as there will be a test on a Friday. To support them further, encourage children to use a dictionary to find their meaning as well as form sentences with the words given.

Learning Logs

Children will be given learning log challenges each half-term which is linked to the work they will be covering in their topics. Please look at our homework grid below. It states how many tasks need to be completed. Remember to encourage children to be creative and share their learning in different ways. Work can be completed and uploaded onto Seesaw/Dojo when finished to reduce the number of things being brought into school and can be electronically marked.

Books

Reading books will be changed every Wednesday. Please ensure that books and signed reading diaries are in school for Wednesday. Reading book, upon return, will be quarantined for 72 hours before they will be recirculated. It is important that your child reads every day. This can be done independently or with the help of an adult or older sibling. Please also ask the children questions about their book to check their understanding.

Times Tables Rock Stars (TTRS)

The children will have been given their logins for Times Tables Rock Stars. They can access the application at home on a laptop or iPad/tablet and even get the opportunity to play against each other or myself some evenings. Please encourage your child to access TTRS at home as this will give them much needed practice of the multiplication facts they are unsure of. Children in Y3 need to know their 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, 8x and 10x of by heart. Once secure, they can learn the rest ready for the statutory test at the end of Y4.
