Tuesday 5th May
Good Morning Year 1,
Happy Tuesday!
Thank you for your brilliant work yesterday. I have shared more of your fantastic efforts on class story and on our web page.
Well done again to all those children who received Dojo certificates 😊
Let’s see how many of you can complete today’s activities. Remember to show me what you have been doing.

To start today's phonics please can you recap all of your phase 3 and phase 5 sounds. You can use your sound mats or you could use the flash cars on phonics play www.phonicsplay.co.uk

Today I want to to look at the sounds 'ue' like in glue, 'ew' like in blew and 'u_e' like in cube (all phase 5 sounds)
Can you read and write these words?

When they are confident move onto numbers 12,14,16,18,20.
The aim is for rapid recall. Make links with their double facts
Practice using Hit the button - Halve numbers

Watch this short video and then try the activity below.
Write down or say out loud the different countries of the UK when you hear them in the video
- Write down the names of the countries that make up the UK.
- Using your phonics knowledge, try writing down any words that were in the video that you hadn't heard before.
- Using the list of new words you've created, quiz the people around you to see if they know the words.
Activity 3: Let's write some sentences
What can you remember about the UK?
Write four sentences explaining what you heard and saw in the video about each country. If you can, try and use the new words you listed in the activity above.
Remember the countries were:
- England
- Scotland
- Wales
- Northern Ireland
An example sentence could look like this.
In Wales there is a really big mountain called Snowdon.
Topic – People who helped us
We are still finding out about people who helped us in the past.
Can you find out more about Mary Seacole?
She helped to fight disease called cholera and she helped soldiers who were injured during war. Watch the video and complete the activity.
