Tuesday 5th May

Good Morning Year 1,

Happy Tuesday!

Thank you for your brilliant work yesterday. I have shared more of your fantastic efforts on class story and on our web page.

Well done again to all those children who received Dojo certificates 😊

Let’s see how many of you can complete today’s activities. Remember to show me what you have been doing.

Mrs E

To start today's phonics please can you recap all of your phase 3 and phase 5 sounds. You can use your sound mats or you could use the flash cars on phonics play

Can you now practice some your tricky words- You need to be able to read and spell these! Practise the ones that you find difficult. Choose up to 5.

Today I want to to look at the sounds 'ue' like in glue, 'ew' like in blew and 'u_e' like in cube (all phase 5 sounds)

Can you read and write these words?

glue   blew    cube

blue   crew    rule

clue   knew   prune

true   flew    June

Write the words on flash cards and sort into the column with the correct diagraph.

Can you think of any more words you could put in your chart?

Can you play Picnic on Pluto and practice the sounds?

Warm-up – Can you practice halving numbers

Pick a number up to 10, can your child recognise the corresponding halving fact? Re-enforce numbers they struggle with practical objects.

When they are confident move onto numbers 12,14,16,18,20.

The aim is for rapid recall. Make links with their double facts

Practice using Hit the button - Halve numbers

Complete the lesson on the White Rose hub website (see links below)

Summer Term week 2: Lesson 2 – Find a Quarter (1)

  • Please watch the video to support your understanding.
  • Try the sheet below.
  • Check your work against the answers (attached below).

Either print and complete, write the answers on a separate sheet or discuss the answers with an adult or older brother or sister.

From tomorrow we are going to start doing some sentence work on the bbc website: Small Town Superheroes.

Go on Ernie’s sentences activity. Can you read the words and then make the sentences correct. Try the easy challenge and then if you feel up to it have a go at the hard challenge.

Activity 2: Let's explore the UK

Watch this short video and then try the activity below.

Write down or say out loud the different countries of the UK when you hear them in the video

  • Write down the names of the countries that make up the UK.
  • Using your phonics knowledge, try writing down any words that were in the video that you hadn't heard before.
  • Using the list of new words you've created, quiz the people around you to see if they know the words.

Activity 3: Let's write some sentences

What can you remember about the UK?

Write four sentences explaining what you heard and saw in the video about each country. If you can, try and use the new words you listed in the activity above.

Remember the countries were:

  • England
  • Scotland
  • Wales
  • Northern Ireland

An example sentence could look like this.

In Wales there is a really big mountain called Snowdon.

Topic – People who helped us

We are still finding out about people who helped us in the past.

Can you find out more about Mary Seacole?

She helped to fight disease called cholera and she helped soldiers who were injured during war.  Watch the video and complete the activity.

Can you draw a picture of Mary Seacole and tell me any facts you have found out about her? You can write sentences or record yourself telling me what you found out.

Remember, you can post your work on Class Dojo to show me what you have done. There are lots of dojo points on offer!
