Good morning Year 1,
Can you believe it’s Friday!
Thank you for all the lovely work that you sent to me yesterday. Here are today’s tasks.
To start today's phonics please can you recap your phase 3 and phase 5 sounds that you find tricky. You can use your sound mats or you could use the flash cars on phonics play https://new.phonicsplay.co.uk/
Can you now practice some of your tricky words- You need to be able to read and spell these! Practise the ones that you find difficult. Choose up to 5.
This half term we are going to be looking at alternative pronunciations and alternative spellings. Today we are going to look at the 'u' when it makes the letter name rather than the letter sound (Please remind your child of the 5 vowels when teaching them as these will be the focus this week - these are a,e,i,o,u)
Can you read these words?
Use these games to practice your 'u' sound, is it the letter name or the letter sound that it makes?
Reading – Have you read any books from Big Cat Collins?
You should try to read one or two a week.
Remember Choose the colour above your home reading book. There is an activity to complete at the end of the book. Let me know what books you have read there are lots of dojo points on offer.
See Link below (more details on reading activities page on the class website).
Warm-up – Practice counting backwards in 2s – Can you start at 10, then 20. When you are confident can you start from different starting points, e.g. 12,10,8… … or 18, 16, 14… ….
Practice using Whack-a-mole.
What number can you count back from?
See the maths challenge below. How will you get on?
You don't have to print the sheet off, you can always just do your working out and write the answers down on a separate piece of paper.
This week we have been reading and writing poems and think about verbs. Can you remember what verbs are?
That’s right, they are action or doing words. Below is a worksheet with a range of words. Your job is to read them and recognise all the verbs and draw a circle around them.
Then complete the sentences with the correct verbs.
Finally write two sentences of your own that include a verb. Can you underline the verb?
Forces are pushes and pulls in a particular direction.
Watch this animation where Seymour Science and friends look at basic forces.
Match up the forces
Drag and drop to match the images to the type of force they are showing.
Push, pull or twist?
Can you go around your house and find different objects that you can push, pull and twist. Why don't you record things that you could push, pull and twist or take some pictures so that I can see what you have found.
Remember, you can post all your work on Class Dojo to show me what you have done. There are lots of dojo points on offer!
