Activity 1: What is he asking?

Yesterday, you looked at 'Eric' by Shaun Tan. If you need to re-read or re-listen to the story, I will attach the video link and powerpoint below.

I would like you to look at the four pictures of Eric. By looking at the pictures, what do you think he might be asking? Can you think of 3 questions for each picture?

Activity 2: Pronouns and determiners 

For your grammar activity today, we are going to focus on Pronouns and determiners. You should all be very familiar with what they are and when we use them. If you are unsure, you may find it useful to watch some of the videos below before you try today's worksheet.

Remember:

• Pronouns are what we use to replace nouns in a sentence. We tend to use them to stop being repetitive in our sentences.
• Determiners are the words we use before a noun. We use them to show whether a noun is specific or general.

Activity 3: Write a recount about Eric's day out

You will need to use your planner, which you created in your grammar activity, to help you write a detailed recount of his day. You should use determiners and pronouns where possible to demonstrate your understanding of them.

Can you underline your pronouns and determiners in your writing? You may want to use 2 different colours to do this.

As we know, we have been in lockdown for a very long time now. Bury Council have asked schools to write letters to people in our Bury community that may feel isolated or alone. The idea of your letter is to make them feel better and less alone.

Guidance for your letter:

• Address your letter 'Dear Friend'
• Sign your letter with your first name and your age. DO NOT include your surname, address or school. 
• You may want to write about things you have been doing in lockdown to make you feel better or you could draw or write a poem.
• You may want to remind these people that they are not alone and you are thinking about them in this difficult time.
• DO NOT include any personal information about yourself.
• When you have finished your letter, you can send it to me and I will arrange for your letter to be sent out.
