Welcome back, we hope you have had a lovely break and are now ready for the first half of our summer term.

Maths
In Maths the children will be learning all about time.
They will be learning how to tell the time, how to measure time in seconds, hours and minutes and about the number of days in each month, a year and a leap year.
Literacy
In Literacy we will be reading an American story called 'The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane'. The children will be exploring the themes of friendship and loyalty and how a character can change during a story. They will be reading aloud their own narratives using expression and listening to the stories of their peers. The children will be 'response partners' to help critique and edit the pieces of writing, they will be using the features of story writing and for their assessment they will be writing their own narrative independently.
The children will be mainly covering the grammar objectives for Y3. Please see our objectives below.
Science
In Science the children will be answering the question 'What plants and animals thrive in Bury?' During this unit the children will be learning all about habitats and where plants and animals live and grow the best. The children will be going on a mini beast hunt, learning about what different environments plants grow in and even growing their own vegetables. During this time the children will also be learning about food chains.
History
In History the children will be learning about crime and punishment and answering the question 'If you were king or queen how would you rule your country?' During this time the children will be developing their chronological knowledge and legacy of the Roman justice system and crime and punishment through the Anglo-Saxon, Tudor and Victorian periods. They will also deepen their historical awareness and understanding of how our past is constructed.
Year 3 R
Welcome back, we hope you have had a relaxing spring term holiday and are now recharged and ready to learn lots of new topics in a jam packed 5 weeks.

Maths
In Maths the children will be working on fractions. We will be counting in tenths, adding and subtracting fractions and finding and comparing fractions.
Literacy
In Literacy the children will be reading 'Charlotte's Web'. During this unit the childlren will be looking at the features of a newspaper report, learning about the importance of headings and captions. We will be reading our own copies of 'First News' and writing our own newspaper reports.

Science
In Science the children will be answering the question 'Why is the music by Arianna Grande enjoyed by so many?' During this time the children will be learning all about sound. This includes learning about how sound travels, what sound vibrations are and how the ear works.
History
In History the children will be learning about the Romans and answering the question 'Why are the Romans so powerful and what did we learn from them?' During this time the children will be learning about roman soldiers, what they have done to help us today (including inventions) and how we have been influenced by them today.

Maths
In Maths the children will be working on further multiplication and division. The Year 3 children will be multiplying two digit numbers, regrouping and dividing.
After this unit of work the children will be learning all about graphs. The year 3 children will be learning how to draw and read picture graphs and bar graphs.
Literacy
In Literacy the children will be reading Red Eyes at Night by Michael Morpurgo. During this unit the children will be looking at a range of grammar used in the text, exploring lots of activities linked to the story and learning to write a diary entry. The children will then be learning to write in the past perfect tense, use conjunctions, adverbs and prepositions within their own diary entry for their writing assessment.
The children will be mainly covering the grammar objectives for their year group but will cover some objectives across years 3 and 4 to recap and extend their learning. Please see our objectives below.
Science
In Science the children will be answering the question 'How would we survive without water?' During this time the children will be learning all about states of matter and the changes that can occur to different materials to change their state. We will also be learning about irreversible and reversible changes and the water cycle. Listen out for your child singing the water cycle song.
Geography
In geography the children will be answering the question 'Why is Manchester such a cool place to live?' During this topic we will be learning all about the city in which we live and what attracts people to live here. We will also be studying the weather and the features of towns, cities and villages.
TTRS
The children have logins for Times Tables Rock Stars. They can access the app at home on a laptop or ipad and even get the opportunity to play against the teachers some evenings. Please encourage your child to access the website at home as this will give them much needed practice of the Times Tables they are unsure of.

R.E
In R.E the children will be learning all about symbolism and the meaning of Easter.
We will also be learning about Hindism and visiting a Mandir in Bolton.
P.E
Children will require their P.E. kits every Tuesday and Friday. They should leave it in school until the half term holiday. This will ensure that they don’t regularly forget their P.E. kit. The children will need either pumps or trainers as the children will participate in outdoor and indoor activities throughout the term. If your child doesn’t have the correct footwear, they may not be able to participate in certain activities, which would have a negative impact on their physical development.
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to speak to us in the morning or at the end of the school day.

Welcome to Year 3R!
Welcome to our Year 3 page. We hope you have had a wonderful summer break and are ready to work hard this year. We have lots of exciting things planned for this year.
In Autumn term 1 we will be kicking off with Art week. We will look at the work of Andy Warhol and create our own unique Pop Art pieces for the Art Gallery. We hope all our parents can come and visit our gallery and see all the children's amazing artwork.

Maths
In Maths the children will be working on Place Value using our Maths No Problem scheme of work. This will involve counting up and down in different increments, comparing and ordering numbers, making number patterns and rounding numbers to make estimations. The children will be working in their workbook completing work within numbers to 1000.
Literacy
In Literacy the children will be extending their understanding of non-chronological reports. They will be completing their own non-chronological report through our topic about the Ancient Egyptians.

History
In History the children will be continuing to answer the question ‘How can we rediscover the wonders of ancient Egypt?’ During this unit the children will be plotting important dates on a timeline using centuries, looking at and identifying Egyptian artefacts, investigating the lives of rich and poor people and looking at how the Egyptians have helped to shape our lives today. We will also be completing some Egyptian art so look out for this in our classroom.
Geography
In geography the children will be answering the question 'Why is the ship canal so important to Manchester?' During this topic we will be looking at the route that the ship canal takes and what types of boats travel along it. We will also be looking at the importance of the ship canal and what it brings to our city.
TTRS

In R.E the children will be learning all about Jesus and who he was. They will also be learning about how he helped people and the stories he told.

Spellings
Children will be given a spelling list every Friday, please ensure your child practices these as they will be tested on these spellings the following Thursday. To support them further, encourage children to form sentences with the words given.
Learning logs
Children will be given learning log challenges each term which is linked to the work they have been covering throughout the topic. This needs to be handed in on specific dates, please take this opportunity to work with your child and tackle the challenges with a creative, imaginative mind that celebrates you child's ideas. Please take a look at our homework grid below.
Books
Reading books will be changed every Thursday. Please ensure that books and signed reading diaries are in school each Monday. Library books will be changed every two weeks. It is important that your child reads every evening. This could be done independently or with the help of an adult or older sibling.
