Activity 1: Read to author profiles

Today, you are going to focus on informal and formal profiles. I have uploaded the powerpoint, which I will be using in class today, so please look at it for help.

The first thing you are going to do is read 2 different profiles by two authors: Julia Donaldson and J.K.Rowling. Once you have read both profiles, I want you to answer the two questions below:

• Write 3 things you have learnt about the author
• How is it written? (Has the author written it herself? Is it formal? What does it include?)

Activity 3: Write your own profile for your Year 7 form tutor

Today's writing activity is going to focus on your writing your own profile, which could be shown to your Year 7 form tutor. You need to think about what you want her to know about you and how you are going to write your profile. You will also need to consider how you want to present your profile. Is it just going to be written down on lined paper? Are you going to write your profile and present it in a creative way?

You need to be thinking about your audience, purpose and formality as first impressions are really important.
