Good morning Year 1,

Thank you for all the fantastic pictures and sentences that you sent to me to show me what you got up to over half term. It was lovely seeing what you have been doing. Hopefully, I will speak to you later today when I ring you up.

Here are today’s tasks.

Mrs E

To start today's phonics please can you recap your phase 3 and phase 5 sounds that you find tricky. You can use your sound mats or you could use the flash cars on phonics play

Can you now practice some of your tricky words- You need to be able to read and spell these! Practise the ones that you find difficult. Choose up to 5.

This half term we are going to be looking at alternative pronunciations and alternative spellings. Today we are going to start with 'e' when it makes the letter name rather than the letter sound (Please introduce your child to the 5 vowels when teaching them as these will be the focus this week - these are a,e,i,o,u)

Can you read these words?

Use these games to practice your 'e' sound, is it the letter name or the letter sound that it makes? Choose the one you like the best.

Reading – Have you read any books from Big Cat Collins?

You should try to read one or two a week.

Remember Choose the colour above your home reading book. There is an activity to complete at the end of the book. Let me know what books you have read there are lots of dojo points on offer.

Either print and complete, write the answers on a separate sheet or discuss the answers with an adult or older brother or sister.

For the rest of this week we are going to be looking at a range of animal poetry. Below are 6 poems about different animals, Read them with your Mum or Dad, or your brother and sister. Which one do you like best and why? Is there any you didn’t like? Why? Discuss them with whoever is helping you. You can record your responses if you want and post them on class dojo.

Choose one of the animals from the poem. Can you find out some facts about the animal you chose? Where does it live? What does it eat?

Can you draw a picture of it and label its features?
