          • Send a photograph of you enjoying the sun! 🎇 Make sure you are connected to Class Dojo so you can do this. I can then send you messages!
          • Choose a times table you are not confident with and learn it off by heart.
          • Let's get creative! Paint, draw, collage a rainbow to put in your window. You can decide what to use, how big it is and choose a positive message to write underneath it. It will cheer people up as they walk past and make them smile.

Welcome to Year 3R!

SUMMER TERM 2020

You will find below new content everyday. Please don't worry if you miss a day, just scroll down to see all information.

MONDAY 13TH JULY
Good morning!
¡Buenos Días!
As-Salaam-Alaykum!

How are you?
How was your weekend?

Millie went back to rugby training so I enjoyed watching that. I also saw Mrs. McQuilton Morgan as she was raising money for the NHS. She cooked lots of delicious food 😊
What did you get up to?

I cannot believe this is our last week together in Year 3. I am feeling quite sad about that. However, I am very proud of the way you guys have dealt with the last 4 months. It hasn't been easy but you've smashed it.

Now, I decided to put this week's work into 1 file. You can go at your own pace, just keep sending your photos. Let's see who will be our dojo champion!

I wonder if anyone can beat Bilal's score on TTRS??

If you manage to complete all the tasks and you want an extra challenge then click on the link below. The second link is the answer booklet for the adults!!

FRIDAY 10TH JULY
Good morning!
¡Buenos Días!
As-Salaam-Alaykum!

It is 'Finish off Friday' again, that has come very quickly this week!
I don't like this weather, do you? The weather forecast is better for the weekend so keep your fingers crossed.

Have a lovely day,
Love from
Mrs. R xxx

💖In Maths today we are measuring capacity. Make sure you click on the link below to watch the video BEFORE completing the activities. It as absolutely fine to watch the video again to help you complete the worksheets.

Remember to practise TTRS, who can catch up with Paige???

https://ttrockstars.com/

If there is anything you would like more practice with, please go to Oak Academy and select Y3 'Maths'. You can then go through and find the topic you need.

💚In Literacy over the next 2 weeks we will be looking at poetry.

We will continue to think about the meanings of words and we will be learning about 'inference'. We will be learning about features of the text and expanded noun phrases which will help you to write your own poem.

Have you enjoyed our novel 'The Boy at the Back of the Class'? I know I have!

However, I need to stop reading it to you now as your new teacher is going to continue the book when you return in September.

You can tell her all about it can't you!

In the meantime, continue to read every day please. It can be comics, annuals, non-fiction, recipes, even subtitles on the TV...

THURSDAY 9TH JULY
Good morning!
¡Buenos Días!
As-Salaam-Alaykum!

I am so pleased with the castles you have made, they are amazing and the 3-D shapes are really clear.

Keep going with the work and check back over the last few weeks to see if there are activities you haven't completed.

Have a lovely day,
Love from

Please complete the activity on 'Shades of Meaning', I have only received a few :
Think about the range of emotions we have read about so far.
I want you to think of at least 5 words that take you from the lowest depths of sadness to the heights of happiness. Write them on the continuum and send me a photo.

💜 In Geography this week I want you to use everything you have learned about the Mediterranean to persuade me to go there!

You can choose how you present it - even a video if you like. Think about all your skills of persuasion that you have learned this year and convince me I need to go there.

Things to consider:

transport - 🚢 ✈

🕐will it take a long time to get there?

climate 🌞

food 🍇🍋🍅

beaches 🌊👙👓⛱

I can't wait to see what you come up with.
WEDNESDAY 8TH JULY
Good morning!
¡Buenos Días!
As-Salaam-Alaykum!

Thank you so much to those of you who have sent work so far this week. I am enjoying being back in school and seeing some familiar faces!

I know it is nearly the end of term but we need to keep going. We are not on holiday yet! Let's see who will be at the top of the leader board this week...

Have a great day,
Love from

Why is it such an important part of our history?
When did it happen?

What is the link with Lancashire?
Were there any cotton mills in Bury?

We are continuing with our class novel 'The Boy at the Back of the Class'.
Read up to chapter 14 with me, you will need your copy of the book with you.

'Shades of Meaning':
Think about the range of emotions we have read about so far.
I want you to think of at least 5 words that take you from the lowest depths of sadness to the heights of happiness. Write them on the continuum and send me a photo.

💙You are now Personal Trainers!

Look back at everything you have learned about our bodies and keeping them healthy. Create a way of passing on your scientific knowledge to your client in order to help them.

You will need to:
1. remind them of what they wanted help with at the beginning.

2. explain what they need to do to meet these needs. (Always back your ideas up with scientific knowledge.)

3. Present this information however you choose. What would help you recall everything you needed to know?

💚For Literacy this week we are going to look at newspaper reports.
There are 2 reading comprehensions - can you remember what this word means?
We will identify the key features of a newspaper report
Recap inverted commas
and you will use this knowledge to write your own newspaper report.

Log onto Oak Academy and complete the activities:

'The Boy at the Back of the Class' :
Read chapter 10 with me on the power point.

To answer these questions, I want you to find
evidence in the text to back up your answer. Show me which part you have read that helps you think that.

How do you think Ahmet must be feeling after 'The Great Baked Beans Bag Trap'?
What makes you think that?
Why did this attack seem to affect him the most?
Add this information to Ahmet's outline in another colour.

💜Today in DT you can build your castle.

T- I can construct my castle to meet the requirements of my design.

Check you have achieved the success criteria:

making neat 3D shapes using nets
stacking shapes and recyclable materials to make the structures of my castle
creating a castle base to secure my structures to
adorning my castle with facades and other decorative features

When you are happy with your finished castle, send a photo and we can have a 'castle gallery'!

TUESDAY 30TH JUNE
Good morning!
¡Buenos Días!

💜 In Geography today I want you to look at the map of the Mediterranean.

Which countries border the Mediterranean Sea?

Now look at the map showing the equator.

Can you remember what we learned about the equator when we made our fruit kebabs?

Where did the fruit come from?

Why did certain fruit grow in the countries nearest the equator?

The equator is an imaginary line around the centre of Earth. The countries closest to the equator have the hottest climate.
What does the word climate mean?
So the fruits that needed the hottest climate grew in countries close to the equator.

Look at the map of the different climate zones across the world.

Where is the UK?
Where is the Mediterranean?

The question I want you to think about is:
'Why do the Mediterranean countries have a warmer climate than we do?'

Identify the climate zones on the map below using the colour key.
Identify the Mediterranean Sea by drawing a line around it.
Identify the UK.
If you can, identify the Tropic of Capricorn and the Tropic of Cancer.

Now write down your answer to my question!

💙For the 4th session of being Personal Trainers we will be researching a topic that is very important in fitness and health and it is a topic on which lots of clients need good advice. Today we will focus on muscles and movement.
Key Vocabulary: muscles, joints, tendons, contract, relax, biceps, triceps, data

What are muscles?
Muscles are responsible for every movement our bodies make.
Let’s watch a film clip to find out all about them.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/clips/zpp6n39

So we know that muscles work in pairs. Let’s think about our arm muscles.Anyone in your family can join in!
Extend one arm in front of you and raise your fist towards your shoulder a few times. This muscle is called your bicep.
There are muscles opposite your biceps on the lower side of your arm that contract every time you straighten your arm. These are called your triceps.
Your biceps and triceps work in pairs to bend and straighten your arms. Let’s get them doing some work!

Hold a water bottle in one hand out to the side with a straight arm. One of you can gently bring it up to touch your ear and anyone else can bring it gently down and under their arm pit. You should repeat your action several times until you feel a slight ache in your muscles.
Stop.
Is your bicep or tricep aching? Why is this?

Let’s find out a bit more about muscles.
Now you are going to do a bit of exercise with your leg muscles but first you need to warm them up. Do some warm up leg stretches like we do in wake up shake up.
You are going to do some swap jumps. Put one leg a little in front of the other, squat down with your fingertips on the floor.
Jump to swap your legs over so the other leg is in front and squat once more with fingertips on the ground. Do as many as you feel you can without your leg muscles hurting.
Stop, just as they begin to ache and count how many you do. Record the number of jumps done on the Swap Jumps Record Sheet.
Who was able to do more jumps?
Is it because they are good at sport or because their muscles are more used to physical activity? How could we investigate this?
When we investigate a question scientifically, we collect data. What data do we need to collect to investigate this question?
Look through the Task PowerPoint with an adult and decide how you will complete the task. Then, when you have created a chart to show your data, send me a photo!
I wonder if we will see a pattern when we compare everyone's data?

'The Boy at the Back of the Class'

This week we will be focusing on the language that the author has used in the story.
Read chapter 6 with me on the power point (On Dojo).

Think about all the people/things/communities that influence you.
What would you do if they held a view that you feel is wrong or unfair?

What is the difference between fact and opinion?
How might you respond when you encounter an opinion that might be incorrect, cause a problem or be damaging to the well-being of another person?

Find out what 'bias' means, then read this statement, which is clearly biased:

'Lemon sherbets are the best sweet in the world and we should have them for breakfast, lunch and tea every day of the week.'

How would you respectfully phrase that the statement is an opinion and not a view that is commonly held?
Discuss this with someone in your home and note down your ideas. Apply these questions:

Is your statement clear?
Is the language used respectful?
Does your statement deal with the opinion expressed above?

Once you have edited your statements, write them out neatly and send a photo. Remember to use cursive handwriting!

Being able to state your opinion clearly and respectfully is an important skill, both in school and all the other communities we are part of.

Can you name all the geometric shapes?
How can you combine nets and collected objects?

Look at the pictures in the file below to help you assemble the nets. Take your time so they are as neat as possible. You may need another pair of hands to help you!

Check your design and construct the 3-D shapes you will need to build your castle.

Keep them safe for the next lesson. Have you collected all the recyclable materials that you will need?

'The Boy at the Back of the Class'
This week we will be focusing on the language that the author has used in the story.
Read chapter 5 with me on the power point (on Dojo).

What do we learn about the narrator?
How does this shape our view of her?
Record your answers on her sheet (from week 1) in a new colour.
How might she and Ahmet be able to relate to each other?

What type of information is important to know about somebody when you're getting to know them?
What would you be comfortable sharing?
Think about these questions and then create a profile about yourself. Include details that you think would be:

useful
informative
interesting to know

You can record this in any way you choose.

💙In Science today, we are going to become experts on bones and skeletons!

T: I understand that not all animals have an internal
skeleton and that the presence of this is an important
feature in classifying them
I know that a skeleton is needed for support,
protection and movement

Important Scientific vocabulary we need to understand: vertebrate, invertebrate, bone, skeleton, skull, rib cage, pelvis, femur.

Your client has a number of questions needing scientific knowledge about bones and skeletons.

Later you can draw a picture or build a skeleton puppet to explain scientific knowledge to your client.

What is a skeleton?
A skeleton is made up of many bones. Look at your hand and feel the bones inside.

What are bones like?
They are strong, light and rigid (they don’t bend). Your skeleton is the rigid frame inside that holds your body up. If you didn’t have a skeleton, you would be just a soft heap on the floor. But with something rigid inside it can hold itself up.

Do all animals have a skeleton inside?
No. Many animals do not, like worms, jellyfish and flies. All animals can be divided into 2 groups:
Vertebrates – animals with a backbone and

Invertebrates – animals without a backbone.

Now watch these videos to find out more:
Skeletons

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/clips/ztfnvcw

What does your skeleton do?
https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/z9339j6/articles/zqfdpbk

How do your muscles work? https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/z9339j6/articles/zpbxb82

Muscles needed for movement
https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/clips/zpp6n39

You may have noticed that whole groups of animals can be classified as vertebrates or invertebrates, e.g. birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians and typical fish are all …. Vertebrates.
Which groups are Invertebrates? … All insects, shell creatures like snails and shellfish, soft bodied creatures like jellyfish, squid, slugs and worms.

Your first activity is to sort the images onto your sheet: 'vertebrates or invertebrates?'

Now let’s test our knowledge by playing a game. Open the power point in 'slide show' and answer the questions.
How many did you get right?

Your second activity is to create a picture or a puppet to explain all this Scientific knowledge to your client.
If you make a puppet, what are you going to use for the joints? Can the parts move?
Send your photos to me when you have finished.

MONDAY 22ND JUNE
Good morning!
¡Buenos Días!
As-Salaam-Alaykum!

Happy Monday everyone, I hope your weekend has been enjoyable.

We have been celebrating Father's Day, did you?

💖This week in Maths, we are going to complete our unit on 'time'. Continue with the worksheets (link on Class Dojo) and you can still access the BBC Bitesize clips and resources file from last week. You will need to talk with an adult about your work.

If there is anything you would like more practice with, please go to Oak Academy and find 'Maths'. You can then go through and find the topic you need.

I would also like you to play TTRS once every day:

https://ttrockstars.com/

Make sure you are practising every day. Armaan is still class champion at the moment with 192! 🏆
💚For Literacy this week, we are going to be thinking about the genre of letter writing. We are going to recap summarising and explore word meaning as part of our comprehension work, identify the main features of a letter and focus on subordinate clauses. On Friday you will write your own letter which needs to include as many of the above features as possible.

I want you to log onto Oak National Academy and complete lesson 4 today.
Please complete all lessons by Friday 19th June.

We are going to continue with our Design Technology topic on structures: building a castle.

Can you remember the main features of a castle? Look at the power point again to remind yourself.

This week, you are going to design your castle and decide which 3-D shapes and packaging you can use to build it with.

Look at the castle you drew last time – is the construction of that design using 3D shapes going to be easy?

Design your castle on the template sheet. Draw 2-D (flat) shapes to represent the features, eg rectangles to represent the towers, but then label your design with the 3-D shapes and packaging you will use. For eg. the towers are actually cylinders and you could use kitchen roll tubes to create them.

Then, write the design criteria on your design template:

1. Your castle must be strong and stable and not easily topple over.

2. It must be made from a mixture of 3D Shapes made from nets and packaging.

3. It needs a flag.

4. It must have a drawbridge.

For more complex features you will need to stack/arrange shapes to make different castle configurations, eg. stacking a cone on top of a cylinder to create a tower.

WEDNESDAY 17TH JUNE

Good morning!
¡Buenos Días!
As-Salaam-Alaykum!

How are you today?
I really enjoyed my training yesterday. I had 2 different sessions.
First, I was learning about 'metacognition', in other words how to help you guys to become even more independent learners.

The second session was about vocabulary. Do you remember what 'vocabulary' means? It's a formal way of saying 'words'. We think a lot about vocabulary in school and we learn new words every day. It is a very important part of your learning.

So, let's get cracking and see how many new words we learn today!

We will continue with our class novel 'The Boy at the Back of the Class'.

Read chapter 3 with me on the power point (You will find this on Dojo).

Why might the narrator have confused the expression'40 winks'?
In what ways is the bully's behaviour enabled by the children and staff at the school?

What language is used that helps to empower the bully?

Use the text to help you write your answers.

Again, add your answers to your sheet for Ahmet and use another different colour if you can. This helps us to see our new learning.

Today is session 2 of learning to be Personal Trainers!
Think about your client and what you know about them so far.
What sort of advice do they need and what did you find from the food survey questions? It seems that your client is going to need to reduce their sugar intake and increase their fruit and vegetable portions!

But your client is going to need some more detailed help from you if you are going to answer all their questions on diet and give expert scientific advice.

What else does your client need in their diet? eg. vitamins.

We all need to eat the right types and right amounts of nutrition if we are to stay healthy. Let’s first find out about the different types of food.
Watch the film clip

http://www.bbc.co.uk/education/clips/zytjmp3

Which food groups did Amanda mention?
Carbohydrates, proteins, sugars and fats.
Let’s find out a bit more about them:
Go through the power point.
(Please note that although it talks about the 'Eatwell Plate', it is actually now known as the 'Eatwell Guide'.)

What is it and how can we use it to help us eat a balanced diet?
Create your own Eatwell Guide for your client using the 2 resource sheets provided by cutting out, sorting and sticking down the food items and then labelling the sections.
Use slide 11 entitled 'What is a balanced diet?' to help you.
These will really help your client understand the proportions of each food group needed to eat a balanced diet. Give out the client information folder to each group.
Every client wants ideas for healthy, balanced meals so one of our tasks today will be to create some model balanced meals on paper plates.
So let’s begin to think about balanced meals – What is the difference between a balanced meal and a balanced diet?
Look at the task PowerPoint.

💙In our science work this half term we are going to become personal trainers and we have some clients that are in need of our help.
What does a personal trainer do?
They give help and advice to people on how to get into shape, train, eat well and live a healthier life style. A lot of us probably already have ideas on how to be healthy but our clients want scientifically accurate advice from health specialists.
So, over the next few sessions we shall become specialists who know all about nutrition, diet, muscles, bones, joints and movement.
Today we start by thinking about diet and nutrition.
What is diet?
Our diet is everything that we eat and drink.
What is Nutrition?
It means nourishment or in other words, the food and drink we need to stay healthy. As experts on nutrition and diet we need to understand what humans and animals naturally eat.
You may know some of this already but it’s good to recap! Follow the BBC Bitesize link below:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/z6882hv/articles/z96vb9q

Read the information and watch the film clips on
What types of food do animals eat?
And
What is a food chain?

So now we’ve learnt that all animals and humans have a diet that suits them and we can sort animals according to whether they are carnivores, herbivores or omnivores.
Play the game Diet Riot from the printable resources below (see Diet Riot game instructions and sort cards).
Now let’s meet our clients. Go through the Session 1 Client PowerPoint (below) and choose 1 client that you are going to work with.
Over this half term, we shall be investigating the science involved so we can give them expert training, health and dietary advice.
Look at your client's diary of everything they have eaten during the last week and their usual weekly exercise.
We will meet up with our clients again at the end of term to give our expert health and training advice! Now it’s time to get to work!

Have you collected your copy of our new class novel?

We are going to start by thinking about the first chapter. It is called 'The Empty Chair'.

Why might the author have used the word 'empty'?

What might this suggest about what is to come?

Add your answers to your sheet with the image of a chair from yesterday. Use a different colour for your writing if you can.

I am going to begin reading chapter 1 aloud, read your book as you listen. (Log into Class Dojo)

Whilst we are reading, I want you to think about the main characters so far: the Narrator, Michael, Josie and Tom.

What do we learn about each character so far?
What are your initial perceptions about these characters - find evidence in the text to show why you think that.

We are also going to start a new class novel this week and Mrs. Farnworth has let me buy a copy of our new book for each of you to borrow. You will be able to collect a copy from the main entrance in school from this afternoon, any time after 1pm.

Our new novel is called 'The Boy at the Back of the Class' by Onjali Q Raúf. Look at the picture of the front cover:

Who do you think the audience is for this book?

What is the purpose of this book?

What genre do you think this book is?

Now look at this image from the book:

What comes to mind when you see this image? Talk to a grown up about it. Print the picture off or draw your own chair in the centre of a page and write your thoughts down around the image. Remember to use cursive handwriting and think carefully about spelling.

Save a photo of your sheet in your portfolio.

Where are we going and who will we meet?

For our new History topic we are travelling to Victorian times and the Industrial Revolution. What do you already know about this era? Who are the significant people? Print off your Victorian passport and as you learn things about the topic, record the information in the correct section.

Go through the power point and complete the time line activity. You could fold some paper into a zig zag book and stick the main events into it.

Our Design Technology topic this half term is 'structures' and we are going to be designing and building castles. Do you remember that I asked you to collect different shaped boxes during the holiday? Well this is why!

We will be learning the features of a castle, identifying the 3-D shapes within those features and using 'net' templates to create shapes for constructing a castle. Have a look at the knowledge organiser for key facts, vocabulary and explanations of these words.

Today's key questions are:

What are castles for?

Who lives in castles?

Where do we see castles?

Which stories have castles in them?

Do castles all look the same? Why/why not?

Look at the pictures of castles on the power point, can you identify the main features?

  • towers
  • turrets
  • battlements
  • moat
  • gatehouse
  • curtain walls
  • drawbridge
  • flag

Now look at the shape castle on slide 14, how would you label these features?

Design your own castle (you will need a ruler) and use slide 13 to help you to label each feature. Try to give a definition as well.

Challenge:

How many of the features can you include in your design?

FRIDAY 22ND MAY

Hi everyone,

Just a few things before we finish for half term.

1. Please can you conduct an experiment next week so that we can look at your conclusions the first week back after the holiday.
It is a very simple investigation linking to what we have been learning. You will need 3 plants (any will do) and I would like you to place them in 3 different places.
I want you to find out what happens when a plant has no water, no heat and no light.

The information can be found on our Dojo class page.

2. Get designing those teddies for our school competition. If you have sent a design already, I have saved them so don't worry.

3. Complete any work you haven't done, just do small amounts throughout the week.

4. Please can you save empty boxes and containers (as many shapes as you can) for our DT project next half term.

5. Finally, stay safe, be good and have lots of fun!!

I would also like to say, from my family to yours, have a very happy Eid. 💖

Have a lovely half term,

Love from
Mrs. R xxx

Good morning!

¡Buenos Días!

As-Salaam-Alaykum!

How was your weekend? Did you enjoy the sunshine?

I enjoyed doing some gardening and eating my lunches outside!

This week is a little different as Friday is a Bank Holiday. It is a special day to celebrate VE Day.

Do you know what VE Day is about?

Watch this video to find out:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=8&v=i234eVT_P8Q&feature=emb_title

Mrs. Farnworth wants everybody at St. Thomas's to do something on Friday to celebrate. She would like everyone in your home to make a piece of bunting that can be strung together as a decoration. On your bunting, please try to write down your personal story - what VE Day means to you, for example your freedom, the ability to stay safe in your home at this time, what you have learned in this situation.

You can make your bunting out of anything: card from cereal boxes, paper, material...and try to make 5-7 pieces. This can then be displayed on Friday at home - in your bedroom, your front room, or even in the garden! You could even make some flags to go with your bunting!

Click on these links for some ideas and templates:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6TlWcL9sVnc

https://www.goodtoknow.co.uk/family/ve-day-celebrations-in-lockdown-540015

You could get baking cakes or buns and decorate them in red, white and blue. Then share them with your family on Friday. If you are fasting, then share them with your family during Iftari.

Make sure you take lots of photos and send them to me on messages. Then I can put them on the class page. Mrs. Farnworth will be looking out for pictures to go on the school page as well!

John Lewis have launched a 'Feel Good Friday' website with lots of ideas and activities that you can do at home:

www.johnlewis.com/content/your-partners-through-it-all/feel-good-friday
They have launched a competition to find a superhero teddy bear, and they need your help designing it. The winning teddy will be sold in John Lewis and Waitrose shops later this year, with 100% of the profits going to the NHS.

I thought it would be lovely if we all designed a 'Superhero Teddy' to say thank you to all those who have gone to work so that we can stay safe. So put (imperative/bossy verb!) your Design Technology thinking caps on and send me photos of your designs. An adult in your home can help you enter the competition if you want to. You are all sooooo creative and I can't wait to see your ideas! Send them in messages and then I can add them all to the class page.

Good morning!

This week I want you to be shadow detectives and track shadows on a sunny day. Begin your observation in the morning. Trace shadows either using chalk on a concrete surface or you can draw or take photos.
Come back every two hours and trace the shadows again.
Track the shadows throughout the day to see the way they change as the sun moves through the sky. Stand in the same spot each time and have someone trace your shadow.
What did the shadows look like in the morning? In the middle of the day? In the afternoon?
Send me the results of your investigation!

Take a look here to give you an idea:
https://www.kiwico.com/diy/Arts-and-Crafts-Ideas/1/project/Shadow-Chalk-Experiment/613

Remember to collect a copy of Horrible Histories 'Groovy Greeks' from the school main entrance so you can start reading. If you find some of it tricky then a grown up or a brother or sister can read it to you.

You must read for 30 minutes every day and it needs to be a book you can have a go at. You can choose a book from home, 'Groovy Greeks' or log onto one of these sites for free, and read online:

How did you do?
MONDAY 20TH APRIL

Good morning!

¡Buenos Días!

As-Salaam-Alaykum!

I hope you all managed to enjoy your Easter holidays! The weather was GLORIOUS, wasn't it? What did you do for your daily exercise in the sunshine?

Are you and your families keeping well?

This half term we are going to be practising the skills we have already learned as well as learning new ones. I hope you have had lots of rest and you are now raring to go!!

This week I want you to use BBC Daily Bitesize to recap skills and get us back into a routine. Select Year 3 and follow the activities for each day:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/dailylessons

If you have a printer, please download the following work packs and print them off. The work should be completed by Friday 24th April. There is a child booklet, a parent one with answers and some practical ideas you can do with your child. Please post pictures on Class Dojo for me to see:

https://classroomsecrets.co.uk/free-home-learning-packs/?goal=0_fcd5ea0670-396f0186fb-191075223&mc_cid=396f0186fb&mc_eid=7df652f32e

It is VITAL that your child reads for 30 minutes each day (this can be broken up into 10 minute slots if your child is struggling to stay focused, but try to build the time up to increase their reading stamina). This can be a comic, non-fiction books, a recipe if you are cooking together, a 'how-to' book...but they must read with someone who can check their reading accuracy and ask them questions about what they have read.

Oxford Owl is another excellent site to support your child's learning, especially reading. Lots of ideas and games, comprehension activities as well as e-books that can be read on a tablet:

https://home.oxfordowl.co.uk/help-child-learn-age-7-8/

Please can I remind you to sign up to Class Dojo if you haven't already done so. This will allow us to send messages and for your child to send me photos and videos which I LOVE!

OK, let's get going...

Love from Mrs. R xxx

Our history topic is going to be about Ancient Greece and from tomorrow you can collect a copy of Horrible Histories 'Groovy Greeks' to read and help you with your research. I hope you enjoy it!

I would also like you to go onto Twinkl Home Learning Hub and complete the 'How to Skin a Bear' activities by Friday 24th April. You may need support to read the story and complete the answers.
Let me know how you get on xx

So guys, 'Happy Easter' to you and your families. Make sure you all rest and have some fun together.

Take care and stay safe,

Love

Mrs. R heartxxx

As-Salaam-Alaykum!

Hello!

¡Buenos Dias! (I have found the ¡ symbol at last!!!)

Hello Year 3, how are you feeling today...raring to go??

Have you done your exercises yet? If you begin your day with some sort of exercise, you feel so much more positive and energised for the rest of the day.

Have you spoken to your grandparents this week or family members who are alone? It is very important to stay in touch. It shows you care and you can check that they are safe and well. heart

I am going shopping later for my elderly relatives. I put their bags at their front door and we wave through the window! Tell me how you have been taking care of your family on Class Dojo, if you haven't signed up then please do so as that is how we can communicate.

So, enjoy your day, work hard and show me your learning.

Who has completed everything in their learning pack..?

Love

Mrs. R xx

Good morning!
As-Salaam-Alaykum!
Buenos Dias!

How are you today?
Ahmed and Armaan have finished 'Charlotte's Web' already! Who will be next..?

When you finish, send me a message on Class Dojo about your favourite part of the book and say why it was your favourite part.

Then, create a story board of the main parts of the book, take a photograph and send it to me. I can't wait for the results.

Love from
Mrs. R xx

Hello!

Buenos Dias!

As-Salaam-Alaykum!

How are you feeling today?

I was in school yesterday with Miss Turner and it was lovely to speak to you. I have also been speaking to some of you today and I love hearing about all the learning you have done.

Make sure you sign up to Class Dojo so we can share messages and you can send me photos of your activities.

Try to keep active and get outside for some fresh air every day.

Take care,

Mrs. R xx

Yesterday, in school, we were 'The Googly Gang'!!

We drew our own googly eyes and made silly faces with them!

I challenge you to make some silly faces (inside or outside) and send me photos. The funniest one gets 10 dojos!!!

Here's mine!

Keep going guys, you're doing so well!

Weekend activities

  • Send a photograph of you enjoying the sun! 🎇 Make sure you are connected to Class Dojo so you can do this. I can then send you messages!
  • Choose a times table you are not confident with and learn it off by heart.
  • Let's get creative! Paint, draw, collage a rainbow to put in your window. You can decide what to use, how big it is and choose a positive message to write underneath it. It will cheer people up as they walk past and make them smile.
As-Salaam-Alaykum!

Good morning everyone, we made it to Friday and this week has certainly been unique!!

Well done to everybody and thank you for showing me what you have been doing. I've (contraction!!) loved reading your messages.

I joined in with Joe Wicks this morning, did you? It was quite tough but it certainly wakes you up!

Keep safe and let me know what you're planning to do today.

Love from
Mrs. R xx

Remember...

Good morning everybody!

As-salaam-Alaykum!

What have you got planned today?

I am going to be working on my laptop and later this evening I am going to help my elderly relatives by going shopping for them.

Make sure you speak to you Grandmas and Grandads regularly to keep them company and to check they are okay.

I look forward to finding out what you are doing.

Love from
Mrs. R xx

Good morning everyone!

As-Salaam-Alaikum!

It was so lovely to talk to you all yesterday and hear what activities you have been doing. If I couldn't speak to you yesterday then I will try again next Monday.

Yesterday (fronted adverbial!!!), I was in school with Miss Turner, Mrs Hardman and Mrs Ali. We started off the day with a work out with Joe Wicks (The Body Coach). He is doing this every morning at 9 am on his You Tube channel. Make sure you give it a go - we can all be doing PE at the same time every day. You could even send me photos on Class Dojo!

Today I am trying to work from home but Dottie seems to have other ideas... At least the sun is shining, maybe you could sit outside your house and have a picnic.

I will say bye for now but remember to keep learning and I am thinking of you all.

Khuda hafiz!

Much love,

Mrs. R xxx

Well done to everyone for a fabulous effort during our swimming lessons and a big thank you to Leanne and Amanda for teaching us!

READ ALL ABOUT IT!!

During this half term we will be reading 'Charlotte's Web, written by EB White. As part of this unit of work we will be reading and writing newspaper reports. In Maths this half term we will be measuring volume and mass.

The children will learn to measure volume using millilitres and litres. They will also come across various problem-solving questions on volume and capacity.

measuring mass using scales. Pupils look at different units to measure mass, specifically grams and kilograms. They will become well-versed in reading weighing scales that have different values for each marking.

In Science we will continue learning about light and dark. We will also be learning about magnets and magnetism.

Our class novel is War Horse by Michael Morpurgo, which the children are really enjoying.

In Maths this half term we will be completing our unit on multiplication and division. Don't forget our times tables challenge! We will also be learning about standard units of measure for length.

During Literacy we will continue to explore Year 3 composition, grammar and transcription. We will be studying 'The Iron Man' by Ted Hughes and working towards writing a persuasive letter.

  • Assessing Writing - Updated 2017.docx
In Science Year 3 will be looking at 'Light'. We will be exploring different light sources and how shadows are created. We will be thinking about reflection and sun safety for our eyes.
In History this half term we are travelling back to the Stone Age! There we will meet prehistoric people and learn about their way of life. We will learn about the stone tools they used, the houses they lived in, what clothes they wore and what they ate. We will also explore how early humans began farming and developed copper, bronze and iron.
