11:00am - 12:15pm LITERACY/READING
Activity 1 - Read the formal job application
How people portray themselves on a job application is very important as it can either get them the job or make them avoidable. When applying for jobs, your first impression is the key to being successful. Your first task for today is to read Fred's job application for the local zoo.
When you have read the application, you need to:
- Write 3 strengths that Fred has in his application. This could be the things he has said or how it is written.
- Write 3 questions you would ask Fred about his application. They could be follow up questions to something he has said or anything else you want to know.
**There will be a class post on Dojo for you to post your strengths and questions on. Pick 1 strength and 1 question you would ask him on the post.**
Activity 2: Subjunctive form
As part of your literacy lesson, you are joining to be looking at subjunctive form. This can be tricky to remember so you may want to look over what it is first before you attempt this activity. You may want to look at the link provided. Once you feel happy with what subjunctive form is and when we use it, have a go at the activity below.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E79CwacH0rg - Subjunctive form explanation recap
**Challenge: Can you go back to Fred's application and identify the subjunctive form?
Activity 3: Write your own job application
Well then, you have now looked at Fred's application and now it is your turn. You can pick a job from the list below or think of your own. You must write a job application for the job and think about what will make you stand out. You must include subjunctive form in your letter as this is a formal piece of writing. If you have a job in mind, you may want to look at somewhere near Bury to find more detail about it. Try and make your letter personal to you.
Lists of jobs:
- Teacher
- Vet
- Doctor/Nurse
- Shop keeper
- Accountant
- Gardener
- Designer
- Chef
- Retail worker
- A job you are interested in or aspire to be.
In your application, you may want to write about:
- Why you want the job?
- What inspired you to want to do this job?
- What good qualities can you bring to the job?
- Why in particular do you want to work at this particular place?
12:15pm - 1:15pm LUNCH TIME
1:15pm - 2:30pm FOUNDATION - Design a superhero teddy
Before the half term, Mrs Rafferty announced a school competition she is running. You will need to use your design and technology skills to design your own superhero teddy. The bear should be a symbol of thanks to all the workers who have helped us during the last couple of months. You may want to think of different designs before you do your final design and send it in. Your teddy can be designed any way you want as we are looking for a design which stands out. The overall winning bear will be actually made into a real life teddy bear and their will be a winner per class. I received a couple before half term but if you wish to design another for a better chance of winning, by all means you can. You need to send your finished design to me by Thursday 4th June (this Thursday) 3pm. If your design is not finished by today's time slot, don't worry! Just remember to send it by Thursday! GET DESIGNING!
