Year 3L
Welcome to Year 3L
Welcome to our Year 3 page. We have lots of exciting things planned for the year ahead.
Art week was very successful and the children really enjoyed using watercolours to create flowers in the style of Georgia O’Keeffe.
During this half term we will be answering the question ‘What Makes the Earth Angry?’ as part of our Geography unit. We will be learning all about Rocks, Volcanoes, Earthquakes and Tsunamis. We be explaining how volcanoes are created and how earthquakes happen. We will also be making our own volcanoes and exploding them outside in the playground. This will be something to look forward too!
In Science we will be answering the question ‘What do Rocks tell us about the way the Earth was formed?' as part of our unit on Rocks. During this unit, we will learn about the three different types of rocks and how rocks can differ in appearance and property. We will also look at how soil is formed and the different layers. To finish this topic, we will look at some real fossils and understand how the fossilisation process works.
In Literacy, the children will be writing Non-Chronological Reports linked to our Geography topic. The children will learn all about the features that make it a NC report as well as looking at using coordinating conjunctions to extend their sentence writing skills.
In Numeracy, the children will be working on Place Value. This will involve counting up and down in multiples of 4, 8, 50 and 100; finding 10 or 100 more or less than a number; comparing and ordering numbers up to 1000; reading and writing numbers up to 1000 in numerals and words; identify, represent and estimate numbers using different representations; and solve number problems and practical problems involving these ideas.
In R.E the children will be learning all about Jesus and who he was. They will also be learning about how he helped people and the stories he told.
Please visit this page regularly as it will be updated with photos of our work and links to aid learning. Take a look at our planning documents to find out more about what we will be learning this year.
P.E
Children will require their P.E. kits every Monday and Friday. They should leave it in school until the half term holiday. This will ensure that they don’t regularly forget their P.E. kit. The children will need either pumps or trainers as the children will participate in outdoor and indoor activities throughout the term. If your child doesn’t have the correct footwear, they may not be able to participate in certain activities, which would have a negative impact on their physical development.
Spellings
Children will be given a spelling list every Thursday, please ensure your child practices these as they will be tested on these spellings the following week. To support them further, encourage children to form sentences with the words given.
Learning logs
Children will be given learning log challenges each term which is linked to the work they have been covering throughout the topic. This needs to be handed in on specific dates, please take this opportunity to work with your child and tackle the challenges with a creative, imaginative mind that celebrates your child's ideas. Please look at our homework grid below.
Books
Reading books will be changed every Monday and Thursday. Please ensure that books and signed reading diaries are in school each Monday. Library books will be changed once a week. It is important that your child reads every evening. This could be done independently or with the help of an adult or older sibling.
Times Tables Rock Stars (TTRS)
The children have been given logins for Times Tables Rock Stars. They can access the app at home on a laptop or iPad and even get the opportunity to play against the teachers some evenings. Please encourage your child to access the website at home as this will give them much needed practice of the Times Tables they are unsure of.

Please do not hesitate to see me before or after the school day if you have any questions or need any further information.
Thank you for your support.
