Monday 18th May
Good Morning Year 1,
I hope you had a lovely weekend! I did some gardening and painted my fence. What did you get up to?
Let’s see how many of you can complete today’s activities. Remember to show me what you have been doing.

Phonics
To start today's phonics please can you recap all of your phase 3 and phase 5 sounds that you find tricky. You can use your sound mats or you could use the flash cars on phonics play www.newphonicsplay.co.uk
Can you now practice some of your tricky words- You need to be able to read and spell these! Practise the ones that you find difficult. Choose up to 5.

This week we are going to be looking again at split digraphs- children find these very tricky.
Today we are going to be looking at ‘a_e’ like in cake.
Can you read these words?
plane behave
shape whale
stage drape
flame blade
Why don’t you try playing a matching pairs game? Write out the words twice on squares of paper (or print out below) and then turn them over. Take it in turns to see if you can find a matching pair (every time you turn a square over you must say the word out loud). If you find a matching pair and read it correctly, you get to keep the pair. The winner is the person with the most pairs.
Or can you play Buried Treasure and practice ‘a-e’ the sounds?

Literacy
Today the writing activities will focus on how to use 'and' to join sentences.
Begin by watching the following video.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zhmwqp3
See if you can spot all the times 'and' is used to join sentences.
The word and is a joining word that can be used in different ways.
It can be used to add more information to a sentence. For example:
I like fish and chips.
It can also be used to join two different clauses together. For example:
I went upstairs and I found a spider.
Activity 2: Discover the ocean
Watch this short video to find out about the ocean, then try the activity below.

You can watch one video (a 30 minute lesson). Try out two activities to practice what you have learned
I have attached the activity sheets below but I don't think you need to print them out, you can just have a go at drawing them on a piece of paper.
