Welcome back and Happy New Year!
We hope you have had a relaxing Christmas break and are now recharged and ready to learn lots of new topics in our first term of 2020.
Our topic this half term is What can we build? and we will be finding out about different materials, including wood, plastic, glass, metal, paper and rocks. We will also be investigating their properties. Our literacy focus will be a range of traditional stories with a focus on Jack and the Beanstalk. With this story in mind we will also be developing our map skills and investigating the different features of an Island home for Jack in Jack and the Beanstalk.
Take a look at our planning documents to find out more about what else we will be learning this year.
Please visit this page regularly as it will be updated with photos of our work and links to aid learning.
Science: Materials and their Properties
We have been sorting a range of materials in different forms as part of our science topic. We have sorted different items of plastic, glass, fabric, rock, metal and wood.
We have been reading lots of traditional tales. We then chose different tales and used puppets and masks to help us to retell the stories. We acted out: The Three Billy Goat's Gruff, The Three Little Pigs and the Little Red Hen. We then did lots of focus work on Jack and the Beanstalk and we described the giant and wrote some excellent stories. We also did a fantastic assembly based on our work.
Santa Express Trip
On Wednesday the 18th December the whole school went on Santa Express and we had a fabulous time. The children saw a magician before meeting Father Christmas and receiving some lovely presents. They also ate their packed lunch on the train. The children really enjoyed themselves and were very well behaved. They were a real credit to the school.
