Year 2
Welcome to Year 2!
A huge welcome to all of our children and families. Please read this page to keep up to date with our focus for learning throughout the year. We are going to be asking ‘Where are we going and who are we going to meet?’ throughout every unit of work. We will be travelling around the world and meeting many significant individuals. We are sure you will really enjoy the topics this year.

Maths
Numbers to 100
This term the children will learn to count to 100, partition a two-digit number into tens and ones. Also using number bonds to help partitioning of a number. Also, they will compare numbers and spot the rule for number patterns.
Addition and Subtraction
In addition and subtraction, the children will learn different strategies to help addition and subtraction, these being partitioning, number lines and column addition and subtraction. The children will learn adding with renaming and subtraction with renaming. Also, the children will learn the addition of three numbers. We will also be solving word problems.
Science
This term, we will be learning about Animals including Humans. We will match offspring to their adults. Explore a range of animal life cycles. To understand a human life cycle and how we change as we grow. To explain the three basic needs animals, need to survive such as air, water and food. Explaining about exercise and why this is important and investigating a balanced diet and how to be hygienic.
History
This half term, we will be learning about the different modes of transport and how this has changed over time. We will learn how to sequence changes to transport in chronological order. To explain the impact of the changes to society. To understand the past and present transportation. Also, comparing similarities and difference of the past and present transport.
Art
The first art topic will be Drawing – Tell a story. We will be exploring mark making using charcoal, experimenting with mark making to create textures. To develop observational drawing and apply expressions to a character then using this into developing illustrations to tell a story.

Life Education
This term we will be learning about families and relationships. Which includes understanding the role of family in their lives, beginning to understand the range of families they may encounter now and in the future. To recognise other’s feelings and how to respond. Also, to understand some friendship can make us unhappy and how to respond to this. To understand manners and courtesy whilst exploring change and loss. Understanding of stereotypes and how this might affect job/career choices.
P.E
The focus of the P.E lessons will be Multi skills and Fundamental games. The children must come to school wearing their full P.E kit. Earrings must be removed and a water bottle and outdoor coat is required.
Music
This term we will be learning how to play a ocarina.
Computing
This term, we will be learning to recognise the parts of a computer, to understand how technology is controlled and to recognise technology. Also, we will explore the roles of computers and how to design for an invention.
