          • Send a photograph of you enjoying the sun! 🎇 Make sure you are connected to Class Dojo so you can do this. I can then send you messages!
          • Choose a times table you are not confident with and learn it off by heart.
          • Let's get creative! Paint, draw, collage a rainbow to put in your window. You can decide what to use, how big it is and choose a positive message to write underneath it. It will cheer people up as they walk past and make them smile.

Good morning Year 1 and 2. We hope you have had a lovely half term and you have been enjoying the lovely weather and been playing outside lots. We hope that you had a lovely Eid- we would love to see how you celebrated this year.

Today we are on week 11 of our home learning. You have all been working very hard and we cant wait to see what you are going to learn this week. Can you get to 50 or 100 Dojo points this week and get a certificate.

Have a lovely week and hopefully we see you soon.

Mrs Worrell and Mrs Hussain

This week we would like you design your own superhero teddy bear. This is a school project and there will be a winner picked from each class and then an overall winner which will be made into a bear. Please send us your completed entry on class dojo.  There is a template at the bottom of this page but feel free to use your own :)

Phonics

To start today's phonics please can you recap all of your phase 3 and phase 5 sounds. You can use your sound mats or you could use the flash cars on phonics play www.phonicsplay.co.uk

Can you now practise your tricky words- You need to be able to read and spell these

This half term we are going to be looking at alternative spellings. Today we are going to start with 'a' (Please introduce your child to the 5 vowels when teaching them this week- these are a,e,i,o,u)

Can you read and write these words?

table           angel

April           bagel

stable         lady

acorn          station

apron         nation

Use these games  to practice your 'a' sound today https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/

Maths

Reading

Watch footballer Jessie Lingard read an extract from Attack of the Demon Dinner Ladies.

Think about the following:

  • Do you know what Shepherd’s Pie is?

  • Why did the children sit at the Packed Lunch table that day?

  • What does the word ‘weird’ mean?

  • Do you think Mrs Kidd is evil?

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/z627mfr

Activity 1

Watch the video again can you answer these questions?

Use the extract to find the answers. The questions go in the order of the extract.

  1. What day is it?

  2. Why did Maisie say it was weird?

  3. Where did the children sit?

  4. What is Maisie terrified of?

  5. What is the evil dinner monitor called?

Now watch the second video

Activity 2

Watch the video again and think about what happens

  1. . What do you think are the important events?

If you could only tell your friend three things that happened, what would they be?

  1. Record the three most important things that happen in the extract. Select things from the beginning, the middle and the ending of the extract.

Important thing from the beginning of the text - ......................................................

Important thing from the middle of the text - ......................................................

Important thing from the ending of the text - ......................................................

Activity 3

  1. Watch the ending of the second extract again:

Nobody was sure what to do next so we decided to wait until lunch the next day to see if the eyes were in our water jug again.

What do you think the children should do? What advice would you give to them?

  1. Choose a child who you want to advise – Izzy, Maisie, Zach or Jodie.

  2. Draw a speech bubble and write your advice inside to them.

Top tip!

  • You should call the person you are advising ‘you’.

  • You might use this to start you off:

............................................, (insert name of who you are writing to) I think that you should ............................................ because .............................................

You could also ............................................ or .............................................

  • Think about how you will end your advice – maybe Good luck or Take Care

Freya's Uncle Bob is visiting the Northern Territory - it's huge, more than five times bigger than the UK! Watch this animation to find out more

https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zdk26v4

Now watch the funky facts about the Great Barrier Reef

Activity 1

Do you remember what we saw in the Northern Territory?

Drag the things that Freya and Sara saw in Australia onto the picture in the game below.

Activity 2

We have learnt about the great barrier reef. Can you try and create your own great barrier reef using different materials and a show box? or you could do so drawing and painting. Be creative and i would love to see your pictures smiley
